    Changing circuit board
I need a new circuit board for my air conditioner. Repair people want to charge me $600 to get new board and install it. I have found a board for less than $200. How hard is it to change it myself?

I am fairly handy with repairs and tools.

    How hard is it?

That depends on your individual ability to pay attention and follow instructions. Read whatever literature comes with the replacement part first, as the new part may not be identical to the original. Take your time, make sure ALL power is off, label wires if necessary, ask for more help if needed, & save some money!

Yeah! The very most difficult part is taking a couple of minutes to make notes of where the wires go before you touch a screwdriver. It is rocket science, the red wire goes on the R terminal, the green on the G, etc. Note any exceptions.

600.00? Are you serious. I am in the same situation. I was told by the ac technician that we will need to purchase a new circuit board- we have a carrier unit. That is to expensive! I just replaced my transformer. I hope that is will not cost that much.

I may add that you should check your warranty, it may be covered . Carrier offers five years on all parts. Good luck, Mike

A little trick I used in my earlier less experanced days, draw a picture of old board and label each wire as to where it goes, or take a close up photo, for something to look back at,, just keep in mind when you are able to get the parts ,you are kind of buying a pig in the poke,, because if you mess up,its wrong part,or for whatever reason, you can`t take it back, you are stuck with it
