Usually a UTI means frequent straining and only producing dribbles. How old is the dog? If it is a young puppy, it may just be gaining bladder capacity. As long as it isn't having accidents in the house, I would just keep an eye on it. I only remember a couple of UTI's with my one puppy. The vet cleared them up quickly and put her on a special diet after the second.

Could he be reacting to the heat? Try wetting him down before taking him out.

Just as an FYI, as labman states if they are suffering from a UTI they strain to urinate. They will make a number of attempts to urinate and seek to get outside a lot more frequently. So, it is a safe bet that he is not suffering from a UTI if he doesn't have the urge to go. If, when he does urinate, the stream is fine and seems normal, and it just appears that he doesn't have to go as frequently as before, I wouldn't worry about it. Labman may be right if you are in an area that is experiencing hotter temperatures. They aren't as active in the hot weather and the inactivity slows down the body responses. Is his water intake the same as before? That should be a good indicator of how often he needs to empty his bladder.
