    IBS flaring
    Hello,

I was diagnosed with IBS a few months ago. Right now it is flared up. I took my dicyclomine and imodium for the diarrhea. It is not subsiding like it usually does. I know I'm ovulating which for some reason makes it flare.
Since my diagnoses I have been taking extra fiber regularly and been on a bland diet (no pepper or any type of spicy food). However I still have problems of not empting my rectum completely and it burns when I have a bowel movement (only during the IBS) not to mention it smells really foul. The poop does look normal though. No blood or black spots nor any type of mucus.
I have an appointment to see the doctor in 2 days but does anyone have any tips to help me tonight. Thank you so much in advance. Or do you think I might have something else?

Diagnosed? Mmmm second opinion time-ask for the test that excludes the possibility of crohn's disease, OR coeliac's disease (I'd put money on coeliacs-but I'm not a gastroenterologist!).

Does your condition flare up after eating bread? Or pastries like pies or burger buns?

I can eat bread without any problems. My stomach is feeling a bit better today but I took all 4 dicylomine and 3 imodium for the diarrhea. However it still feels like there is a not in my stomach with a bunch of gurgling. I have no desire to eat at all today.

Your medication may not help you very much... will you try to get tested for coeliacs? You may not see instant attacks after gluten (bread based) foods... so you may still have the condition.

Just curious I haven't had this problem until just a few months ago. 4th of July was my previous attak and my stomach swollen up so much my neighbor asked if I was pregnant. I also get weak in the legs and a rapid pulse when I have these issues so I don't know. I got diagnosed in the ER because I was scared I was going to pass out. The medicine worked well the first time. I will ask the doctor tomorrow about celiacs. Thanks for the tip.

This is absolutely correct. IBS is supposed to be a "last resort" diagnosis. I had a doctor tell me that was what I had and I told him I refused that diagnosis and went to another doctor who diagnosed with my wheat allergy.

IBS and Celiacs/Wheat Allergies have identical symptoms. The difference is that there is a test for Celiacs/Wheat allergy and is there none for IBS.

I usually a skeptical of IBS diagnosis. I have suggested to everyone I know to go get tested for wheat allergy who has IBS and all of them have had it. Majority of people actually have a misdiagnosed wheat allergy or celiac disease. If you are celiac you definitely want your intestines checked out to make sure you haven't caused any damage from eating gluten.

Good luck! If it is celiac let me know I have tons of websites and recipes!

Thanks. I will keep you posted. I guess I will take my last fiber drink for the day and hope this pain goes away. I just wondering every time I breath in my stomach is making this weird growling/waterish sound.

Fibre drink may make it worse! It could be wheat or rye fibre! Forget (for the moment ) trying to remedy the situation-almost all of the digestive fibre drinks etc. will antagonise ceoliacs disease.

To aid in digestion I would recommend Xiao Yao San it is a chinese medicine that relieves stress on the digestive system. It works really good. My acupuncturist gave it to me it readily available at most Chinese grocery stores

You really need to rule out other possible conditions that may have the same symptoms as IBS. The process of IBS diagnosis is not very fast, because there are no tests for IBS and the causes of IBS remain unknown. So the diagnosis consists of elimination of other possible diseases.
