    Abandoned cars on property I own in Florida
    I have two cars that have been left on my property after the tenants moved out. I have tried to contact them, but the forwarding number has been disconnected. I believe these cars have been abandoned and plan to have them removed. Are these cars now my property and can I sell them? The former tenants owe me money and the sale would make us almost even...

    I don't know for sure but I think after so many days the property becomes yours. The local police might be able to advise you what to do. I don't think you would be able to sell them because you do not have proper paperwork.

    Unless the cars are worth a lot of money - which probably isn't the case or they wouldn't have left them - I've found it to be more hassle than it's worth. Contact the agency in your state that handles vehicle titles and ask them the process and cost for getting title to the vehicles into your name.

    Where I live there are people who own junk yards/parts lots/scrap yards that will come tow the vehicles away at no expense to the property owner. They then attempt to get the owners to come claim them by offerring to purchase the vehicles if the owners will come sign over title. Then they can pay them a small price and part out or scrap the vehicles.

    Also, check your state's laws (first post in this forum) on the definition of abandoned property and the laws regarding what you can/must do with it.
