Refinishing a bathtub, has anyone had it done?
    Hi all,

Will be moving into a house soon and the bathtub looks old and discolored. I've been looking at different solutions and one of the more economical options is to have the bathtub refinished. Has anyone had this done and if so, was it worth it?

The other options are replacing the bath tub or just getting a bathtub overlay to place on top of the existing tub.

A friend of mine had his tub and tile reglazed from peptobismal pink to white and it looks good. They gave him a warranty of I think 3 years on the tub and 5 on the tile.

He thought it was worth it because it saved him time a money of re-doing the bathroom.

Bathtub refinishing is a great way to go if you can't afford replacing. Call different companies because prices are competitive. Please check them out ask for references, check with bbb.

We had ours refinished professionally a few years ago. It requires a strong acid to etch the old finish and spray equipment to do it right.

It the best of circumstances it should only be considered a temporary fix. It's only paint, a good exopy paint, but still just paint. It's prone to scratching and dings. Will chip you drop something. Any abrasive cleaner will start to sand it off, those things you stick on the bottom to keeps the kids from falling can pull off the finish.

We've had a few remodels in which we were asked to do this, I hired a company to reglaze it, it turned out great, the customers where really happy with it,
Biggest thing here is just get a reliable reference on who you use,
