Should I be worried about a missed period?
I am a 27 year old healthy woman. I've been on BC for at least 6 years. Last month I wasn't as meticulous as usual, I would go to take it and realize I had missed a day or two, so take them all at once. My period is now 9 days late. I'm always right on time. I've been hot/cold (temperature wise), exhausted and getting pimples (I NEVER get pimples!). I haven't lost/gained a bunch of weight, changed prescriptions, changed diet or been excessively stressed - until now I guess. I've taken probably 7 tests that said no. I took one yesterday morning that said "PREGNANT" one of those new digital ones. But then I took one again this morning and it said no. I haven't restarted my BC for fear it would do something to me if I was pregnant - which would be okay. I was actually happy when it popped up saying yes because that meant we knew what was happening with my body and we were going to have a baby! I'm having some cramps but I think that is more due to nerves.

Anyway, question is, should I be worried about anything because I am so late. Or should I wait to be a month late and then worry? Please give any advice possible!

    Thanks,
    Niki

One of the possibilities, your hormones are so confused about the on/off with the birth control pills. The more you go on/off with them, the more your hormones are going to be thrown off balance. If you are not pregnant, one suggestion would be to set an alarm somewhere in the house to remind you to take your pill. If you miss one, just carry on the next day and take one. Do not take more than one birth control pill at a time, it is not safe. Since you missed some pills, it is also a good idea to use another form of contraception such as condoms.

Another possibility, you could be pregnant. If you took a test and it said positive, it is a good chance you are actually pregnant. False positives are rare. Wait about another five days (that way you'll be 2 weeks late) and test again. Make sure you use your first morning urine as it is the most accurate. Also, another thing you can do is go to your doctor and request a quantative blood test. That is the most accurate way of detecting pregnancy.

I agree, I don't believe in false postives, typically there is a reason to get a positive and then not be pregnant, and it isn't a problem with the test... read about false positives at PeeOnAStick.com

If you get a positive, you are pregnant plain and simple. The other tests you are taking might not be as sensitive. I would call your doctor and let them know you received a pos. HPT. They will schedule an appointment for bloodwork. Then go to the store and buy some prenatal vitamins and start on them now. Congratulations!

Congrats you are pregnant. If you took the first test with your morning pee then it picked up your pregnancy. Did not work later because pee was not as concentrated. Try again tomorrow morning

Sounds likely! As they said, try another test in the a.m. (first pee)... that will tell you more. And call your doctor.

I tested again yesterday morning and it still said no. We've decided to wait for a couple days to take another one, but I think we are pretty convinced we are. I also read last night that the earlier you detect a pregnancy, the more likely you are to miscarry. So we are taking this as a blessing! Thanks for your help! I really hope a test proves we are pregnant soon, the suspense is killing me. But I feel pregnant!

I have never heard anything like that before.

The best way to detect pregnancy is get a blood test done by your doctor. If you really think and feel that you are pregnant, I would suggest getting the blood test done. :)
