Do they do another sonogram before you give birth
I was wondering, are you suppose to have another ultrasound before the baby is due so you can know the weight and all on the baby? I know there's the 20 week ultrasound which I had done, but there should be another one right?

You can request one if you want, other than that the only time they will do one after the 20 week one is if they think there may be something wrong with the baby. The fact that that haven't requested one from you is a good sign that you and the baby are healthy :)

Not really. There are circumstances where you will have another one, but if the baby is healthy at the 20 week then they usually won't have a second u/s. Most insurance companies will only cover one anyway.

Well I guess I am different. I have military medical and insurance and they will cover pretty much whatever I want.

Also, if you are in the US, it is possible that your insurance will only cover one, meaning that any additional ones will be out of pocket expense unless the u/s is required for medical reasons, which you definitely don't want.. You an go to a private ultrasound imaging place and have one done. There are a lot of the 3d/4d ones around, but those are also out of pocket... typically $100-200/session.

The nurse who preformed my ultrasound said if nothing is wrong the 20 week ultrasound is usually the only one covered by insurance (unless you needed one early on to date the pregnancy). However, my clinic offers a $75 self pay 3-D ultrasound (with a CD)at 28+ weeks just for fun.

Well I have had four babies with all different doctors so they have all been different.
With a few of them I did have an unltrasound at the end of the second trimester or in the 3rd. There was usually a reason for it. Most of the time they couldn't get everything they needed on the 20 week one.
If they think there might be a problem with you or baby they will do more too.
Doctors have told me that they can kind of gage the size by felling the baby through the stomach.
I am sure if you ask they might do another, but it would probably be additional cost.

Good Luck with you & baby, it's is such an exciting time & it's hard to be patience.

Yes, did you find out the sex? Or is that the reason for the question? I know that I had one at 20 weeks with my first, and they couldn't find the sex, but since he was a healthy baby and I had no problems, I had to wait until birth and it was a surprise... I hope to have better luck this time.

Well yeah I had one at 20 weeks and they were able to tell me I'm having a little boy :-).. Yeah I'm going to have to ask because I have pregnancy medicaid, but I'm not sure if they will cover for another one. I asked about the 3d/4d one but it's out the pocket $200.

Congrats! Boys are so much fun. With my first child I was on passport (government) and they allowed me to have one at 9 weeks and one at 20, but that was it.

You won't even remember the pain... youll have him in your arms, and you will immediately forget it all. I had an epidural and it made it much easier to enjoy... I felt the first 7 cm though...
