    Extending a half bath
Hello! My husband and I are thinking about buying a duplex and living on one side. The side we want to live on has 1.5 baths. However, the half bath is on the main floor and it looks as though it used to be a closet. The sink and toilet are situated so strangely, it's almost impossible to even use. There is a space between the bathroom and front door that we thought might could be used to extend the bathroom into a full bath... by tearing down the wall and adding new walls to make a bigger bathroom. What we'd love to do is add a doorway between the bathroom and bedroom next door (but the door would have to go on the right side, where the sink is). I'm just trying to figure out if all this is even possible, how easy it would be to add walls and possibly a shower, and how much money we might be looking at.. Also, if anyone has any other ideas, that would be helpful. I'm including 2 links that will take you to pictures of the half bath and the space I was referring to. Seeing how it is situated may help you to answer my questions better. Thanks! (HINT: If you have pop-up blocker, you'll need to hold down the Ctrl key while you click the link to view the pictures)

Does not appear to be a job for the dyi unless you have extended experience in carpentry & plumbing. It does not look as if it's a support wall so eliminating it should not be the issue. However it will cost to have qualified licensed contractors. My guess for this area (N.J.) would be 15,000 to 20,000 $$$$

My father-in-law and I are putting in a half bath on the main floor. The problem is, the location is too far from the main stack, about 15 feet or more. Will 1 1/2" DWV work for new half bath? [ 5 Answers ]

I plan to install a toilet, lavatory, and a laundry tub in our basement. Will break out the floor and hook into 4" DWV line. The run from the main line to the toilet is about 5 1/2' feet. I figure that if I vent at the point where the new toilet drain line enters the 4" main line, I should be okay....
