    GFI Breaker pops
    I have a 20a gfi breaker that keeps popping.as soon as i flip it on ,it pops.we have had a lot of rain.need help please

    My husband is an electrician so he can answer your question. What section of the house does the breaker control?

    It contols about 6 plugs throughout 3 rooms.I Have changed the breaker and still triped.

    There's probably a wire that's exposed and its grounding itself out or there's a wire arcing and its causing the breaker to trip.

    So where should I start.Everything is unpluged and still pops right away,We had about 20 inches of rain.So Don't know for sure if that has a part in it.

    I can't give you a step by step instruction on what to do because I cannot see the problem. Call a certified electrician to take a look at your problem right away, because if it is arcing it could be a fire hazard.

    It could be as simple as a bad GFI or a bad connection, if your not real familiar with electricity the best advice is to call in an electrician. It is hard to troubleshoot a problem without seeing, however there are a couple of good electricians on this site, and I'm sure they will review this thread.

    The GFCI operates by sensing the difference between the currents in the Hot and Neutral conductors. Sounds like you have a Ground fault downstream.

    You keep saying "rain"? Explain. Are your devices exposed to water?

    Disconnect wire from breaker, if it resets, problem likely downstream from breaker. Reconnect.
    If qualified, I would remove receptacle closest to breaker, Disconnecting wires. If breaker doesn't trip, power good to there(No Fault). Repeat till you find wires faulted.
    Can fault with hot to ground(or neutral), or neutral to hot.

    There was moisture in the box.I Took breakers out and blow dried evrything,Switched gfi breakers and still poped.I Then put a 20 amp standard breaker and it will hold.I Talked to my electrician and he says as no plugs around countertops or b/r ,That is what he would do.We have had about 20 onched or rain,I Think moisture somewhere was making the gfi fault.So this where Iam at now,Everything looks good now.

    It may not be tripping breaker, but something may be getting warm, and drawing current.
