    Gfi breaker to outlet
Hi, I would like to know how to connect a GFI 4 wires circuit breaker to a outlet to be used for a air conditioner (220v). The GFI was used for a 220v spa now that the hot tub is not being used. I want to use the same breaker for a air conditioner. I purchased a outlet but it only has 3 connections ( 2 hots and 1 ground) what about the neutral?? Thanks

Simply cap the neutral at the outlet location. Keep in mind that a GFI breaker is not required for an air conditioner, and may trip due to nuisance ground faults typical with refrigeration units.

Does the amperage rating of the outlet match the amp rating of the circuit and breaker?

Hi, thanks for the fast response. The outlet is rated 20Amp and the GFI breaker is 40Amp but the AC unit only uses between 10 to 12.5Amp. Thanks

The outlet you have should not be connected to the 40 amp circuit breaker.

The circuit wiring should be #8, which is plenty large enough to handle the load, the breaker, however needs to be replaced with a 20 amp 2 pole breaker.
