Hampton Bay remote controls wrong functions
I've had a number of problems with my remote-controlled Hampton Bay ceiling fan/light. I've been able to fix them in the past, but the latest has me stumped. When I press the low and medium fan speed buttons on my remote, the fan turns off completely. When I press the high speed button, it comes on, but the speed is anything but high. The red light does come on when I press any of the buttons, and the fan is obviously receiving the signal; it's just getting mixed somewhere in the process.

I've checked that the frequencies are matched, and I've replaced the remote battery. I took the remote completely apart and tried cleaning it out, but no luck. Any advice would be appreciated.

Lets face the possibility that the hand held is shot, they do go bad frequently. If this was an after market remote you can get a universal at HD for $39.

Sounds like a bad capacitor. In remote fans the capacitor is usually in the receiver so it's easier to replace the whole receiver. Does the fan have pullchains?

Nope, no pull chains. I wish it did so I didn't have to use the remote!
