My cat had one kitten for her first litter is this normal?
My cat had one kitten 10 to 14 hours ago and her contractions have stopped. The kitten came out dead and she didn't even detatch the umbilical cord I had to. Should there be more kittens and is this a cause for alarm?

I am having a similar problem, My cat had one kitten about an hour ago and has not had anymore kittens or contractions. But is acting very normal. This is her second litter and the first litter she had 4 kittens. Is having only one kitten possible?

I've had a couple of experiences with first litters. It's apparently pretty common for the kittens to die on the mom's first littler.
We had a cat a few years ago that had a litter of 3 and 2 of them died. The third one was pretty pitiful because even at 6 weeks it didn't look much older or bigger than a new born.
Even the cat that we have now that had her 2 kittens last night... one of the kittens died this morning. She didn't pay attention to it after it came out of her besides cleaning it.
Cats seem to know if there is something wrong with the kitten and if so they'll usually just leave it or eat it (sounds gross though).
