    Bad Solenoid Switch?
Hi all... Just had a repairman out to fix the A/C two days ago. A/C was running but not cooling (no frosting of coils, no clogged ducts, compressor fine, etc). Repairman stated that it was a faulty "solenoid switch" and replaced it successfully. For the last day and 1/2, A/C has been running fine... now all-of-a-sudden same symptoms as before. Anyone know if it's possible that the problem is the same solenoid switch again and if so, is there an underlying problem as to why this thing keeps breaking? A/C unit is a Payne, only 2 yrs old. Thanks in advance!

He either didn't fix correct part, or replacement was defective. He needs to troubleshoot while failing. It is hard to troubleshoot when everything is working.

What solenoid was he talking about? Is this just a standard a/c system or is this a semi-commercial or top of the line a/c? B/c I only thought solenoids on a/c's were more geared toward really high end or commercial systems.
A liquid line solenod would close on temp fall causing the low side pressure to drop where a low pressure switch would shut off the compressor... id find out exactly what he replaced.

If he replaced the contactor that brings the outside unit on it probably went bad already. In the past 6 months there has been an increased failure rate for this part. Most professional HVAC people are saying it is because of very cheap manufacturing in China where most of these parts are made. Goodman and many other manufactures are seeing a 35% return as defective for this item. Call the repair man back and have him replace the part. It should be under warranty.
