Hello, My husband had borrowed money about $50,000 on our joint credit cards and he has refinanced our house twice, one line of credit for $25,000 and the second for $15,000 and there are other people he had borrowed money from most of them are only on his credit. All these were to start a restaurant. Please don't tell me to see a divorce lawyer or go for marriage counselling because I already know and that's not why I'm asking your help. My problem is whether I borrowed the money or not creditors are going to come after me too and so I have to file for chapter 7 too. Also, he is being sued by Citi bank for $10,000 something + attorney fees and 32.5% interest.

So, at the moment we are filling for Bankruptcy, chapter 7 and we live in Oregon. He lost the business and after two months of job hunting he got one that pays $34,000 a year where he works on salary, over 50 hrs or more.
I didn't find a job yet and even if I did I wouldn't be able to pay the heavy day care charges for two kids because I don't have much work experience and it will most likely be minimum wage.
Now, My problem is we are going to lose the house for chapter 7 and I don't know where to live with our two children.
Please I'm asking if anyone knows, if nobody rent us an apartment, is there any government assistance or all four of us have to sleep on the road? I don't have any family that we can stay with. My credit has to be bad because he bought a house about 2 years ago on my name because his credit wasn't good and it went for foreclosure because he couldn't pay it. The foreclosure shows only on my credit report. For whatever the steps I have to take to take care of my children after bankruptcy, first I need a decent place to stay when they give us 30days to get out. I'm really scared and stressed out, please help me.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Hang on to your marriage... this stuff will take a marriage if you let it.

Tell your husband your scared... communicate. He needs to know this. He needs to hear that your scared..

Do you have a church you attend? They should be able to help you... get the word out that you need a place to stay... and you need help.

Thank you for your response and I have talked to him but he does not know what to do except depending on me to tell him what to do. I have kept everyone together uptill now but I think I'm about to lose faith anyday. I'm angry he didn't listen to me when I told him not to borrow money or buy the other house but I guess what is done is done. I just want to know how and what rental people are looking for when they are screening. Our lawyer has told us that we would get an homestead exemption of $39,600. So, I could give two months rent/security deposit to an apartment if they let us... but I'm scared if they don't let us and don't care, I don't where we will be... Does the government care or are there any places to get assistance if we are told to leave but has no place to leave to?
I have been going to Grotto(church), but don't know who to talk to...

And talk to a financial counselor... both offer this for free I believe, at no cost... which can be helpful.

I think the government does offer help for people that need it... but dealing with government for help can be frustrating... lots of red tape.

Yes, it sounds like you both need to file bankruptcy, and most likely the sooner the better.
** I seldon advice this, you are just too for under, no way to really getting out.
