    how do I balance the chemical equation Al(OH)3 + HCl ------> H2O + AlCl3

    Break it down and make it simple
    One one side you have
    1x Al
    3x O
    4x H
    1x Cl

    On the other you have
    2x H
    1x O
    1x Al
    3x Cl

    so make sure you have the same amounts on both sides.
