    Chest pains on Tamoxifen
I took Tamoxifen for breast cancer 11 years ago. At that time I was taking Synthroid every day. I started to get chest pains for no reason. The nurse where I worked looked up Tamoxifen and under side effects it said, "UNEXPLAINED CHEST PAIN"! My oncologist said, of course, it could not be the Tamoxifen, but stop it if I wanted to see what happened. Guess what? The chest pains stopped. When I tried to go back on the Tamoxifen, they started up again, so I didn't take it any more. Now here's my real problem - Soon after this, my family doctor said maybe I would feel better on natural thyroid hormone rather than synthetic, so he switched me to Armour thyroid. I started to get the same kind of chest pains back again. He told me he would just put me back on the Synthroid, but I kept getting chest pains. He has tried every kind of thyroid he can think of, even the smallest amount he can give me and then I have even cut them in half and tried half in am and half at noon. I have not been able to take any thyroid since 2000 and I am almost to the point that I can hardly get out of bed. Can anyone give me any help. My doctors look at me like I am crazy!! Am I the only person in the world that this has ever happened to?? I can't play with my kids, my weight is soaring, my legs feel like lead weights! I don't know what to do!! I am getting very, very depressed!

Have you had a second opinion? I would find another endocrinologist in your area and have a second opinion along with blood tests to rule out any other disorder. Are you diabetic?

My family doctor sent me to "supposedly" the best endocrinologist in Harrisburg, PA. She said she doesn't think I need thyroid pills. The blood work then showed it slightly low. I just had some new blood work done and I'm waiting for the new results. I have to watch my blood sugar, it's border-line. WHY? Could high blood sugar have something to do with the chest pains. I haven't had them since I stopped the Tamoxifen and Thyroid meds. I'm just very, very tired and going down hill every day!

No changes in urination. My husband has type 2 diabetes so I use his tester to check my blood sugar. It ranges from 90 when I get up in the morning and anywhere from 120 to 150 after a meal, depending on what I eat. If I have a big bowl of ice cream with choc. Topping it may go up to 190 but comes right down.
