    Escape from NY
Kurt Russell stared in this cult classic movie about dystopian America and New York as prison worthy of escaping from.

In a case of life imitating art ; NY Guv Kathy Hochul is presiding over the escape from NY.

New York’s population plunged more than any other state in the country over the past year, according to sobering new statistics – as fed-up lawmakers and ex-New Yorkers blame crime and the sky-high cost of living.
Almost 102,000 people fled the Empire State from July 2022 to July 2023, the United States Census Bureau revealed in a Tuesday report.
It was one of eight states to face a net-decline in residents over the period, while red states, including Texas and Florida, saw the largest growth in population.
New York lost more residents than any other state: Census Bureau (nypost.com)

And what is Hochul's plan to reverse this trend ? She plans on taxing the people remaining in the form of "reparations" .

Appears I got out right in time.

Wouldn't at all be surprised to see NY enact some sort of "exit tax".

U.S. Census data confirmed Florida as the top destination for U.S. citizens moving from one state to another.
From April 1, 2020 to July 1 of this year, Florida had a net migration gain of 818, 762, according to the Census Bureau. That was the most of any state.
Texas came in second, gaining 656,220 followed by North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
California was at the bottom of the list, with a net loss of 1.19 million, with New York coming in second to last with a loss of 882,676 and New York and Illinois at a negative 364,443.

People are voting with their feet, but they're also voting at the ballot boxes, and that can be a negative if they learn nothing from the inept handling of the states they are leaving.

I guess I could add a new posting called 'Escape from Tim Walz's Minnesota'

Minnesota has lost taxpaying residents each year since 2019. The state suffered a net population loss of 45,000 people between 2019 and 2022, the latest year for which IRS data are available

Regional Trends in the Domestic Migration of Minnesota's Young People (mn.gov)

IRS data show net loss of 13,455 Minnesotans in 2021-2022 (americanexperiment.org)

Now some of that is because it becomes freaking cold in the winter there . But in the past before the Walz days ,people from cold weather states that like cold weather were migrating to Minnesota. And it doesn't explain why Minnesota lost population to Wisconsin.
But there is no doubt Wisconsin has benefited too from the onerous tax rates to the west. Both individual and corporate income tax rates are close to 10% in Minnesota, which has a statewide sales tax of close to 7% and high local sales taxes as well. Overall, Minnesota’s State Business Tax Climate rank is 44th in the country, according to the Tax Foundation.

Since 2023 the Dems control every major office in the state . They have been on an orgy of passing "progressive " legislation. This includes Walz making the state an abortion and gender mutilating “sanctuary state.”

They are also an illegal alien sanctuary state.

They are playing the cancellation culture game too. They changed Columbus Day to 'Indigenous People’s Day.'

New York is not far behind in the stupid catagory.

On the ballot this year is a constitutional amendment.

The law already bans discrimination based on race, color, creed or religion. The amendment adds "sex " in all it's lib forms .

2024 Statewide Ballot Proposal | New York State Board of Elections (ny.gov)

“sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive healthcare and autonomy.”

That those are already covered in NY law is of no concern.

    NYS Open Legislation | NYSenate.gov

    hrl.pdf (ny.gov)

It has to be enshrined in the constitution of the state for the libs to be satisfied.

It has nothing to do with the protections .Those are already there . It comes down to 'how do you get women scared enough to vote' ? You have to harp on the false notion that their rights are under assault.
But it is the pandora's box that opens the door to women's rights coming under assault. It opens up men in woman's sports ;locker rooms etc. It opens up children opting for mutilation surgery without parental consent.

There is another chilling line in the proposal

“nothing in this section shall invalidate or prevent the adoption of any law, regulation, program, or practice that is designed to prevent or dismantle discrimination.”
NY State Senate Bill 2023-S108A (nysenate.gov)

This is an open ended commitment to adopt DEI discrimination protections .In other words reverse discrimination is codified .
Equal Protection Project Opposes Proposed DEI Amendment to the NY State Constitution (legalinsurrection.com)

Preferences based on race ;and things like reparations come immediately to mind . It would be illegal to oppose them with law suits under this amendment.
