Don't celebrate just yet. You have destroyed the nest, but you haven't destroyed the roaches.

The real question is what did we learn from the last experience with roaches.

The lesson with roaches is you have to exterminate them

The history of man is FULL of outlaws, rogues, and disgusting humans with bad intentions, that thrive on weak and ineffectual governance. To be effective you must be proactive in not just good governance, but enforcement, and growth, because like it or not, bad guys are always evolving and looking for ways around whatever devices you develop to exterminate them.

Yes so keeping guns hasn't worked, and the reason is you are not allowed to exterminate the bad guys, but following up on your suggestion to be proactive, what do you suggest since all that enforcement has given us is more bad guys

In many states here we have something rare in other countries. Called the Castle doctrine. Someone intrudes into your place of residence... you have the legal right to exterminate them... so to say, they don't HAVE to be armed, they don't HAVE to have injured you first. You just have to feel threatened. You don't HAVE to prove it was necessary. I feel sorry for people who live places where they can't even protect themselves in their own homes without fear of prosecution.

Don't need help and knock on a door of someone who feels threatened and as a matter of LAW any shooting has to be investigated. To Clete's question though not sure I have a solution since weak governments, and oppression go hand in hand around the world and segregating whole people mostly poor immigrants in one place often leads to high crime, vicious gangs, and a host of problems.
Chicago at the turn of the century comes to mind with the mob wars and plenty of corruption especially during Prohibition. They have just traded one gang for another over the decades, but same stuff. The new ghettos of Europe, go unnoticed and unreported but the same segregation and oppression and no doubt corruption. Racca may have been freed, but plenty of places for the roaches to run to, thrive and grow.

I would rather live in a place where home invasion is rare. I know opportunists and idiots are everywhere but we don't live in fear, and that is because people don't go armed. The problems you have you created

If we listen to our NATO ally Turkey, the Kurds should be wiped out, as terrorists. Chad is also an ally against Isis and terrorists groups in Africa, and they end up on the travel ban list. Go figure. What's the old saying, "With friends like that..."?
