Tick: It seems you are not aware that there are indeed some very highly-rated university programs in Hotel Management. Speaking from experience here - I can attest the programs at schools such as Cornell University and Michigan State lead to careers that are not busboy, but rather management positions in all sorts of hospitality-related businesses such as hotels, restaurants, private clubs, cruise lines, etc. In my experience the people who are accepted into these programs are highly-motivated, hard working, and quite often end up in jobs they enjoy very much.
To the OP: we don't know whether this would be the right career for you. If you have experience in the hospitality business (perhaps doing the sorts of jobs that Tick mentioned), then you should know whether it appeals to you or not. If you have no experience in this area my advice would be to get some experience before deciding to apply to a hotel management school. In general the top schools will not accept applicants who don't have some level of experience in the industry.
