I bought a single burner one on ebay, and sold it on ebay. I didn't have a single plain all steel pan! Even copper bottom steel won't work.
As a whole cooktop, they are so expensive that it would take years to pay for itself on electric usage.
I'm all for saving. I even turn off a burner in the last minutes to let food keep cooking from residual heat. Same with the oven, and I don't use the oven if I can use a covered skillet on a burner, even for slow cooking for hours.

That's the Thing, An Induction Stove Top is as You say Rather Prohibitive Price Wise.. The Wife found an Induction Single Burner unit (portable by Salton) On Sale @ Canadian Tire.. When You assess just how many burners you'd have "On" all at once.. Two would be Plenty, hence the Initial Outlay should be Doable?

Sure - but like I said, they are useless unless you have all steel cookware.
