I have a rain soft whole house water treatment / acid neutralizer system. They want 3000 to replace the acid neutralizer tank and head. Is there a better cheaper system to replace it with?

The first question I have is who told you that you need an acid neutralizer? What is your water source? And doesn't Rainsoft come with a long guarantee?

I have a well. Purity isn't a problem; high mineral content clogging pipes and faucets is. So I spent 2.5 times the usual for a new hi-tech product that crystallizes minerals instead of doing ion exchange. No electricity used, no maintenance except once a year filter replacement using an included plastic wrench, and no 40 lb bags of salt to lug to the basement. The product I bought is made by Pelican and costs $1200 shipped (it's small and lightweight). It's easy to install yourself, or a plumber can do it (it does require a little plumbing).

We have had the system for 16 years. The copper pipes were turning the sinks and showers green and when the system was installed it went away. Short answer was rain soft told us. Our water source is a shallow well (50 feet). The system we have, has a softener tank with salt block tank and the acid neutralizer tank. Joypulv, did you also have a problem with iron, or was it just minerals (e.g. calcium) only?

My water test 3 years ago when I bought my house didn't show iron much and I only see a black speck or 2 once in a great while, probably from pipes. It isn't far from the well to my house, only about 20'. I live in an area of glacial mountains of pure limestone in many places - CT

Regular ion exchange water softeners are archaic, cumbersome, time consuming, use electricity, not good for your health, and they break down.

Crystallization tanks are small, use no electricity, and do no salt ion exchange. Because the minerals are crystals, they just sit on your pots and pans and counters and shower doors or inside your pipes, and don't harden. You just wipe and it's like a soft white film that comes right off. You can't buy them at a big box store. Direct from Pelican only.
