Hi I was wondering what opinions you all had on whether I will pass an EtG test 118 hours after my bac returned to 0. Wednesday night I consumed one bottle of wine, one 12oz beer and approx 4 shots of vodka, stopping around midnight. I know my bac was at 0 the next day because I have an ignition interlock in my car that won't allow it to start unless bac is zero, I started it at around noon. I just took a test today (Tuesday) around 10am, giving me at least 118 hours from 0 bac to test. I'm feeling confident that I will pass but would appreciate any opinions. Thank you.

At 118 hours, you will have no problems passing. ETG is , at best, an 80 hour test.

There is a recurring theme in your posts... persistant drinking, recurring fears of getting caught on a random test.


Perhaps its time to seriously consider stopping drinking. Or maybe you really need to fail a test to be forced to face your problems.

Smoothy, you are right. I have come to the realization that I am an alcoholic and am seeking help. I know drinking is not the right thing to do in my situation but have had a hard time stopping. I am starting an intensive outpatient program next week (that is the earliest they could get me in) and am ready to finally stop. I haven't been able to just stop on my own and will be taking this program very seriously. Thank you.

Most people find they need that outside help and support... its not easy to stop, and habits need to be broken and changed.

But the first step is recognising and acknowledging you have a problem... And I commend you for taking that first step, and encourage you to stick with it.

We can't say for sure if you'll pass or not, we can only go by what experts have said, and that means real experts, not test group crap you find on the internet, which is sadly what many of the people answering these questions, rely on.

Most experts agree that an ETG test can detect alcohol between 60-80 hours. After 80 hours most people have a clean test. But there are some that test negative after 80 hours. It happens. Most of those people are also using alcohol containing products i.e. hand sanitizer, mouth wash, cough syrup, etc".

You should pass, but should isn't definite, and I hate it when people on this site post that someone will definitely pass, because there's really no way to predict that, especially when they're basing their advice on studies they found online. I found a study about parvo for dogs online once. It suggested giving the dog 2 gallons of bleach, and it would be cured. I can tell you as a pet expert, giving your dog bleach will kill your dog. Yes it will also kill the parvo, but really, who cares? It will kill the very being you're trying to save by listening to some proclaimed know it all online. When people post links to online studies, it shows their lack of actual expertise.

In other words, don't trust people that get their expertise from online sources. Trust those that know what they're talking about because of their own studies, and actual knowledge on that subject.

Long story short. You should pass. But if you will or won't, we can't predict with any accuracy, because we don't know what else you're doing and using.

Fair enough. But do you think a person who was honest with and accurately reports what was consumed would pass? That is my only question.

No way to know... why? Because there are far to many unknown variables. Honesty and accuracy is only a small part of it.

What happens with one person, won't nessessarily happen equally to the next person, meaning how fast and well people can process it varies too much from person to person for a number of reasons.

So there aren't hard and fast constants that can be assumed to apply equally to everyone....unlike the laws of physics as an example of something that actually does..

I passed. I thought I would but was super stressed all week and lost lots of sleep. I won't be putting myself in this situation again. Thanks everyone for your input!
