Water spewing toilet
What would cause my toilet to literally spew water from the base of the toilet, I had literally 2' of water flood 1/2 my house and might have ruined my pergo flooring in the hallway, it soaked the bedroom carpets halfway through, ugh!

Sounds like a combination of a drain clogging and the wax ring seal under the toilet failing for some reason (such as a rotted floor due to a long term smaller leak)

Smoothy's bang on. You have a blockage in the drain line. There are several ways to address this.
1-pull the toilet and snake the drain line. **or**
2- snake from the lavatory roof vent. Put out enough snake to reach the base and 15 feet more. Let's understand one thing. A wax seal is designed to seal off the flush the discharge but not any water backing up past it.
Good luck, Tom

Hi Flrtygrl72
I think we need a little more information here. Is this a duplex or multi.-family home? If not and the water backed up and flooded your home then I suspect that the CITY/TOWN sewer may have backed up and into your home...UGH! I would call the local sewer department and see if they have been out working or flushing the sewer mains in your neighborhood...by your description, good chance they were jetting the lines and it backed up and into your place (their insurance would obviously cover ALL damages).
Back to you...

Mark, it is my multi-family home and it is the main bathroom only. The master bathroom is fine! From what I was told (because my teenage son was the only one here at the time, until our friend came to turn off the water) the base of the toilet was spraying water like a sprinkler and there was water approximately 2-3 inches deep that had spread throughout the hallway, half of the back bedroom and around the corner or possibly through the wall into the kitchen. I don't know how long it was spraying, my guess is at least 2 hours. My pergo flooring has started to buckle in the hallway and I know that they were cleaning with a wetvac as soon as they found it. I'm still waiting to find out what is going on. I did notice the seal around the bottom of the toilet is broken, but the floor doesn't seem to be rotted and the walls are not wet or don't seem to be rotted either. Someone will be coming to look on Saturday, but I will definitely call the water company to see if they were flushing the city/town sewer that day it does seem peculiar and we have been having some problems with low water pressure lately due to some well issue. Hmm better check with them.

Check with the sewer department...sounds like something that could only happen with back pressure from a sewer jet machine to me...;)
