I am trying to secure a USDA loan for buying my first home. The mortgage company is saying that the gov't requires the well water to be up to EPA standards. Currently the water tests high for Iron (1.000) and Turbidity (3.7). I am interested in remedying this with a cartridge filtration system, and am wondering if it will be enough to fix the problem or should I look into some other fix. Also, I was wondering if I could get a ballpark figure on how much it would cost to have this installed? The seller will not pay for any repairs, instead is taking any repair costs done off the sale price of the house, so I am paying for these repairs out of pocket.

A cartridge might take care of turbidity, but not iron. There are several options there, and you can find companies on the internet that will test your water and recommend some options. Prepare to spend some money. At 1 ppm, a water softener might do the trick, and that would be relatively cheap, but you'll need someone who can test the water and guarantee a solution.
