    Installing a Dimmer
    I am trying to install a dimmer in my kitchen and am stumped. Too many wires and not enough knowledge.

    Which wires connect together? Help please!

    Is this switch (the old switch) one of a set of 3-way switches?

    I am with Harold on this, that red wire is likely a traveler for a 3 way switch. Do you have two or more switches that control your kitchen light, possible at opposite ends of the room?

    Agree that most likely this is part of a 3-way switch setup.

    Why did you undo the splices in the box?
    What wires were spliced together before?

    I have to say, if you have no idea what you are doing as you say you'd be best served calling an electrician to clean this up.
    Do you have a tester or meter?
