    Installing a Dimmer
I am trying to install a dimmer in my kitchen and am stumped. Too many wires and not enough knowledge.

    Please see photo here:

Which wires connect together? Help please!

Is this switch (the old switch) one of a set of 3-way switches?

I am with Harold on this, that red wire is likely a traveler for a 3 way switch. Do you have two or more switches that control your kitchen light, possible at opposite ends of the room?

Agree that most likely this is part of a 3-way switch setup.

Why did you undo the splices in the box?
What wires were spliced together before?

I have to say, if you have no idea what you are doing as you say you'd be best served calling an electrician to clean this up.
Do you have a tester or meter?
