Kenmore gas range. Purchased in 2005
OK I tried to use the self cleaning and the door lock started to lock and never finished. The door is not locked but it does close and I can do nothing about it. None of my control panel buttons work at all. I have finally, after listening to the beeping of the lock trying to lock for 4 hours, unplugged my stove and waited 30 min or so to see if it wold stop and it didn't.is there anything else I can try? Should I try spraying wd40 in the lock mechanism? OK so I left it unplugged over night and when I plugged it in this morning itś doing the same thing. If I hold down the stop button long enough I get an F11 error code. No warranty :-(. Do I need a new range or an electrician? My 24 year old son said I might just need a new control panel.

You have loose wires. Take it apart where you can see where your wires are attached, especially the ground wires, and tighten all wire connections. Some corrosion may be present, too. This is a common problem and easily fixed. New parts are useless.

Oh wow thank you so very much. I will have my husband do that when he gets back and will advise if this worked. That is what I thought the clicking sound was that I heard.

It's a good idea to go throughout your house and open each receptacle and tighten each screw because over time they loosen up and will burn down your house. I have had this problem in my house and it burned up outlets and switches where they fell apart when I unscrewed them. If it's really bad you will notice flickering lights at times, or when an appliance runs lights will flicker. Sometimes the main power line lugs will also loosen and lights will suddenly get brighter. If this happens it means the neutral is loose and it is very dangerous. In that case turn off the main breaker and call your power company immediately. They see it as an emergency and will come out right away. Open your breaker box and tighten all screws on the breakers and on the grounding and power bars. Use an insulated screwdriver that has an insulated, round shaft made by Klein, if possible. Use the largest one you can fit on each screw, so you will need three different sizes, usually. The screwdriver tip should be as wide as the screw head, never smaller. If you open a receptacle and find burned wires from loose connections replace the receptacle (or switch) and make sure that you have a high-amperage receptacle where needed, like where you plug in a microwave or refrigerator (these should be on their own circuit). These steps will help you avoid a house fire, like cleaning out your dryer once a year (the leading cause of fires).
