Hello, I have a Kenmore Gas Range. My manual has the following model numbers on it:
790-75922, 790-75923, 790-75924, and 790-75929. I was trying to reset an option and pressed the "stop/clear" button and held it for a few seconds. The door locking mechanism started to engage, so I opened the door. Now the door lock is engaged (it's out and visible) but my door is open and won't close. I've tried pressing all the buttons. I can't get the door lock to disengage. How can I get the door lock to unlock so I can close the oven door?

Hi, I had the same problem. It's caused by pressing the oven cleaner button. When you press the button the oven automatically pulls out a lock. The door locking mechanism started to engage, so I opened the door. Now the door lock is engaged (it's out and visible) but my door is open and won't close. I tried pressing all the buttons but I couldn't get the door lock to disengage.

I couldn't figure it out myself until I read your question which had the answer hidden in there.

This is what I did, I closed the close (it wouldn't close fully) and then I pressed the self clean button. Set the time for 2 hrs. and the display said " lock" where in fact it wasn't locked but the 'system thinks it's locked. So then when I pressed 'cancel/stop" and waited like 2 seconds. The cleaner stopped and said unlocked... and slowly the lock hook that sticking out pulled it self back in and my door fully closed.

My mothers kenmore 790 gas range just up and decided to automatically lock the oven door... it would not open... we did not attempt to force it... we unpluged the stove for 30 minutes ( hoping that perhaps a reboot / reset would be possible of the electrical system.


After 30 minutes... we plugged in the stove.

Then I pushed the automatic self-clean button to start the self-cleaning process.

Then I gently opened the door all the way... voila... the lock is now completely disengaged... I stopped the self cleaning cycle by turning off the self-clean... all seems to be working fine now

I do not know if this particular sequence that I performed opened the door... but it seemed to.

I have rebuilt a few computers, and I like Star Trek, so rebooting and starting the self-clean operation and then opening the door just seemed like something Captain Kirk would do after talking to Scotty and Spock.

OK so you allś issueś are slightly different from mine. I tried to use the self cleaning and the door lock started to lock and never finished. The door is not locked but it does close and I can do nothing about it. None of my control panel buttons work at all. I have finally, after listening to the beeping of the lock trying to lock for 4 hours, unplugged my stove and will try what the last person did and wait about 30 min or longer and plug it back in and hope this fixes it. In the meantime, if it doesn't fix it is there anything else I can try? Should I try spraying wd40 in the lock mechanism?
