Is that the left or the right you are speaking of Tom? The exploiters of your nation are only too happy to have "illegal" slave labour to exploit, not only directly but as a shove to keep wages low. This is the economics of fear and exploitation. These are the job creators you love and protect, the rich 1% who rip you all off. The GOP will not allow immigration reform as a sop to their contributor base

It's the greedy farmer who exploit the immigrant worker, and a green card through reform means they can't. That's why the right hates it. Fair wage and a chance to vote for the brown guys? Not if the righty's in the house have there way.

You clearly don't know what you are talking about . The biggest champions of blanket amnesty is the business organizations like the Chamber of Commerce, Conservatives (note I did not say GOP... Nohelp is quite correct about the 1 party nature of the so called 2 parties )have no problem with real immigration reform either . The only precondition I'm aware of is border security... something the lefties don't want . I will oppose all their efforts of giving amnesty to another generation of illegals until that is seriously addressed. We went through this exercise in the 1980s... we were promised border control in exchange for amnesty . Well they got their amnesty and never followed up on the border security . What they want is open borders . But as you of all people are aware ;a nation without controllable borders is not a nation.

Tom I symapthise with the problem of open borders fortunately our border protection works we intercept 100% of illegals coming by boat we miss a few overstays but then doesn't everyone. This illegal problem is a serious cost issue for us both but your only problem with border security is budgetary, well, soon you will have some troops needing a job so where better to deploy them. With your military might it is ridiculous that you can't secure your borders. I didn't say blanket amnesty but you should offer a path to citizenship for all migrants, when you do that you will have to enforce your labour laws too. But by all means reject those with a criminal record. It is a pity this isn't a bipartisan issue
