My sister has every sign of a chronic drug user. She has even lost over 60lbs in 9 months. (most in the last 3 or 4) she has been smoking pot daily for a number of years so that really isn't as much a concern as something harder. My parents have a friend that works in a lab and decided to pop a hair test on my sister last week. She tested negative for everything! Is a false negative possible? With the extreme weight loss and all the other symptoms it's just a gut feeling that won't go away. I hate to keep accusing her though. Where do we go from here?

I would get her a complete physical. There could be numerous things going on that could cause that sort of weight loss in such a short time, anything ranging from an eating disorder to cancer. I wouldn't keep focusing on drug use, especially since she passed the drug test. I'd find out if something else is going on.

Might be an undiagnosed illness... if she tested clean for drugs... she's probably clean from drugs.

When is the last time she's had a complete physical and full bloodwork... including fasting blood sugar.

Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) can result in some rather strange behavior...

Thank you for your response. I will try not to focus on the drugs. She had routine blood work for diabetes Larry week. (it runs in the family) she had stomach issues but had her gall bladder (sp) removed in Feb. since then she's been tested and given meds for her stomach. She won't get a job. Says it's social anxiety. Been given meds for that. Has extreme mood changes... and is content living in a trailer park that looks like it's right out of crack town (literally) with a guy who is content with his mother and her boyfriend also living there,they have no jobs, and my sister cleans up behind them. Oh, he also depends on my sister to take him to and from work on my parents gas. They have no furniture, no food, no heat or AC AND he's told her he doesn't want to be with her. But she still stays. When you put all that together with the fact that she wasn't raised to live this way, what are we suppose to think? We've begged to help her.. she refuses to see a therapist which the Dr. last week told her she needed to. My mom is afraid of something like cancer too... I also live over 200 miles away so I'm not physically there to help support my mom. I wish the gut feeling of drugs would go away but it just won't... I've watched my husbands brother waste away on meth over the last year and a half so I'm just really scared she's caught up on the same dead end path.thanks again
