Can I remove a split system?
    Hi,

I'm going to renovate my loungeroom which has a split-system air con/heating attached to the wall.

I want to remove it so I can paint behind it.

Is this something that I can fumble through myself (I have no plumbing experience) or should I really be getting a plumber in to do this for me?

I also want to put it back after I paint.

    Thanks!

You need someone other than a Plumber... you need an HVAC tech... unless it's a system that uses water type heat exchanger you are dealing with Refrigerant gasses that requires the right equipment and knowledge to deal with.

smoothy is correct. To remove the indoor wall unit, the lineset will need to be disconnected, which means the refrigerant will need to be reclaimed or "sucked" back into the condenser. This is no job for a do it yourselfer. This requires the skills of a refrigerants licensed hvac tech. There may be a little play in the indoor unit, so I would contact the hvac tech and have them see if they can't move it just enough for you to paint behind it.

"Frog" tape and a small brush will solve your problem. No need to remove.
