    Connecting power into existing meter.
I have built a new garage about sixty feet from the house. I installed a new 200amp panel and roughed in all my wiring. The inspector told me I could not connect to the bottom of the meter to run power to the garage. He said I could use a meter base with breaker panel attached ,and connect the house and garage to the panel so the power could be cut off at the breaker, and kill it going to the house and garage at the same time. I can't find such a panel to allow this. I have run 4/0 service entrance wire over to the house and don't know what to do now.The inspector has me seriously confused. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?

If you want 200 amps in both the home and garage at same time, then read this previous post, which has a picture of a meter with 2 -200 amp breakers. But this will require the service entrance to be upgrade to a 400 amp service.

There are meters combined with panelboards, but if you need a 200 amp meter, the panel is only rated 200 amp, and the largest branch circuit allowed will be a 125 amp breaker. You cannot connect 2 200 amp feeders to a 200 amp meter.
