    Dual state tax return questions
I am having trouble filling out my taxes this year because of a job change which required a move to another state. I had been a Georgia resident for a few years until June 2006 in which I moved to South Carolina for the remainder of the year. Technically for 2006 I lived in Georgia for 6 months and South Carolina for 6 months. The complicated part is that I don't know the rules for residency, my licence was never changed to South Carolina but I had to register my cars there, I am not sure if this makes a difference or not. Do I claim Georgia as my full year residence and South Carolina as non residence? Thanks for the help!

You file as a part-year resident in BOTH GA and SC.

Pay GA taxes on income earned while a GA resident, and SC taxes on income while a SC resident.

Attach a copy of the other state return when filing to show the state how you allocated your income.
