Simple question I hope:

How long should my leads be inside the boxes? I'm guessing about 6"?

Also, for the electric rough-in inspection; do I just leave the wires sheathed inside the boxes, or should I connect all the grounds (bare copper, and whites) and just leave the hot wires (unpowered) dangling?

The minimum length of wire after splicing should be no less than 6 inches.

For inspection, most inspectors want to see all grounds made up, so we usually remove all the sheathing, splice all grounds, and get all other splicing done, wilt any pigtails ready to be stripped and terminated onto outlets and switches.

This makes trimming so much simpler, plus you don't need to try to remember what each wire is for. Really tough to splice afterwards when the cables are all buried and you can't tell what each wire is for, esp for switching locations.

Assuming you are referring to your service drop conductors at the weatherhead, good practice is to tape the ends of the conductors so water can't wick up into them.

Inspector will want to see that your grounds are made up to the box also, if you have metal boxes/enclosures
