I had a flue shot Wednesday afternoon after I had dizziness and high blood pressure. Yesterday and today I have diararea, is this normal?

Why did you have your flu shot this time of year? There are some side effects at times, one of them is loose stools. Dizziness and high blood pressure should not be occurring.

I have to agree with Tickle. Flu shots are usually given late fall to mid winter, not in spring. Where I live, flu shots are not even available at this time of year.

But, there can be side effects with the shot (I worked 2 seasons of the flu shot campaign including H1N1). The reason that you're asked to stay for 30 minutes after receiving the shot is to monitor any side effects you may have from the shot. Most issues occur within a few minutes of getting the shot.

I would say that the symptoms you're experiencing are likely not related to the shot, but if you're concerned, talk to your doctor, we can't diagnose online.

1.) First of all flu shots are available anytime.

2.) From a biological approach all of your symptoms could be the ramping up of your immune system. Beta cells in your lymph system can and do swell to the point of impeding lymph fluid return to the blood system, thus increasing the viscosity of your blood. This in-turn will cause your blood pressure to increase since your blood is less watered down. The dizziness you are feeling is more than likely a product of the same thing just guessing here with (orthostatic) issues. The stool change is also a product ridding the body of the pathogen.

3.) The wait time after a shot is to make sure no allergies exist, the premise is only anaphylactic issues nothing more. This develops very fast within 2 minutes on average. Some people react slower because of histamine levels in the blood but in 30 years I have never witnessed a reaction after 10 minutes.

4.) Flu vaccinations should make you feel a little sick because the virus and parts and pieces is being injected into you that causes an immune response. The sickness should be very slight when compared against a functional infection.

5.) The biggest problem in you case is hydration so drink lots of water and if your symptoms continue for more than a couple days go see your doctor. It could always be something else.
