    Sick 4 week old puppy
She's almost 5 weeks old and is the runt of the litter of Shi Tzus. Very obviously it started with a head cold.
Stopped eating from mom about 5 days ago and started formula about 4 days ago.
Yes she was taken to the vet. Twice now and both times given a shot of antibotics and told good luck. (no joke!)
About 3 days ago she started crying constantly with sometimes screaming. She is now sleeping less and crying more.
Im at my wits end and I really don't want to lose her. Anyone on here with suggestions? Please help!

    Screaming?
PLEASE, unless you want to spend several hundred dollars which may not help, put her down now! How selfish to say you don't want to lose her - of course not, but think of her.

I have to ditto other two responses. I can't say anything else but maybe, god bless her and take away her pain.

What tests has the vet done? Obviously the antibiotics aren't helping. Did they even tell you what's going on, why she's in so much pain? Did they do blood work, an ultrasound, any testing at all, or did they just give her a shot, wish you good luck, and that's it? If that's the case you need to find a new vet.

Bottom line, this animal is in extreme pain, and sitting around hoping that it's going to stop, isn't doing anything but prolonging the inevitable. So either get this puppy the help it needs by a qualified vet, pay the money for tests, and a diagnosis, or put this poor puppy out of its misery. Right now she's dying anyway, she's just doing it painfully and slowly.

If a vet is giving her a shot and sending you home with a pat on the back and a good luck, than I would suggest to find another vet. If you want to fight for this puppy, than finding a second opinion should be a priority.

Is this puppy indeed in pain? Or is it just an unhappy puppy? At 5 weeks, puppies go through the transition of always depending on mom, to being on their own. When puppies are sold at this age, they are overly whiny and extra needy.

Its hard to say that this pup is indeed in pain. Just because a puppy cries and screams a lot doesn't necessarily mean its in pain. If you feel that this pup is in pain than please say so.

But I'll stand with what I said earlier... if you want to fight for this puppy to ensure her life, go see a second vet.. and if that vet says nothing, find a third. If the run-of-the mill vets aren't figuring this out, and you want to spend the money, get a referral to an internal medicine specialist. They see weird things every day.. They may have an answer for you.

I would hope a second opinion, a diagnosis (or at least an understanding of a diagnose) is called for here - but screaming in pain and it's about "I don't want to lose her" and not about "she's screaming in pain -"?
