What treatment, if any is available for this? I have a female relative who is 33 y/o & has the emotions & rationale of an adolescent girl. Academically she is on target.

I understand what your going through... totally. My father whom is 48ish has been told by the doc he has the mind of a child. He get's sooo mad about everything. Cries about everything -his wife my mother is in a home with Pick's. I'm 21 and it bother's me, but I don't cry about her every time I think of her. He has a lot to deal with. He was never a parent either. He thinks the whole world should wait on him hand and foot. If your friend is really like a child talk to a doc and maybe try to get her help. One day she's going to get herself into trouble.

I know what your saying, BUT some people have a mental problem that causes this, I know because my father has it. His doc said he did. Ppl can be mentally 10 and physically 50.

From that statement I deduce he is talking of a person whom is older but act's like a child. He was not as spesific as your being. So I could be right or wrong. We need more information.

My father is EXACTLY that. He know's a lot, but is retarded for lack of a better word.

Many times emotional retardation is the sign of narcissistic personality disorder. With these types of people only "their" emotions are what is important and they feel that they can only be understood by "special" people even though they themselves never try to understand anybody... they may give the appearance of trying to understand people but they are good actors. Usually they well abandon the very people they pretended to try to help or "understand". In the end these types create their own abandonment by their lack of emotions for anybody else... then go into rage or depression because nobody would take "the time" to understand them.

Prognosis for such types is dim... they rarely change because it works for them especially with unsuspecting and "new" people... often you will see them changing friends, groups, social circles, places of employment or even addresses frequently. Always in search for the perfect audience that will cater to their emotions as they abuse and neglect others.
