Chocolate Sensitive
After recently having a couple of bad years through the perimenopause having very bad Migraines I have discovered that if I stop eating chocolate they virtually seem to stop. I have tested this by abstaining then eating again and every time I eat chocolate about two weeks later I will get crashing Migraines with vomiting all day. When I stop I sometimes get a very minor pain and slight quesiness but nothing like previous. I have always enjoyed chocolate and have never had a problem before only since I have started having hormonal imbalances due to Perimenopause. Why is this? I have medication but I like to enjoy chocolate and have been terrified to eat it fearing an attack. I have read this can happen at this time while going through changes in this way but has anyone else suffered this and what can I do about it. I have thought about Acupuncture and whether this would help make the headaches go away as they are really frightening me. Can anyone help?

Tyramines.
An amino chain in some foods associated with migraine headaches.
Chocolate, hard cheeses, certain beans, yogurt that isn't very fresh - find a full list of foods by searching 'tyramines migraines.'

It isn't poisoning. Tyramines are present in many foods and most people have no trouble with them. But you can of course get a severe reaction as you found out. Why are you continuing to eat those foods (if you are)?

You had to wait for an answer because we are all volunteers here giving our time to this site. Most of us have regular jobs.

I have cut down on chocolate, not eating it every day, just eating smaller amounts and not before bed and I have found I have just had very mild migraines but nothing like I was having before. Also my stress level has gone down. I think it could be a combination of things. Also hormones.

No, I really don't believe in the whole psychic thing. I never did, but lately I've been having very vivid dreams. I still remember a dream I had years ago. And the dream I had a few weeks ago, shook me to the core.
