Can a mother be stripped of her parental rights
My daughter has a 7 yr old daughter. She lives with the father and his wife and her children. They have joint custody, but my daughter has male dependency issues. She does not see her daughter very often and when she does an agrument takes place between them and the visit turns bad. The father is filing in court to take all of her parental rights. Can she be forced to give up.

In rare cases any parent can be stripped of their parental rights. I don't think arguing will suffice as a good cause for it in this case though.

Depends on what you consider "rights" to be. The father might be asking for sole custody, no visitation by the child's mother or anything else.

What specifically is he asking for?

As Judy indicated this is an oft misunderstood issue. Any parent can have their rights terminated under certain conditions. But it is a rare occurrence. She can't be forced to give up her rights but a court can terminate them.

But taking away custody and terminating rights are different items. If the mother has visitation and doesn't use it, the courts could limit or eliminate it, They could also decide that giving the father sole custody is in the child's best interests.
