I stole $500 from my old job got a phone call from my former supervisor he said I have three days to pay it back otherwise he will call the cops, he asked me to pay it in cash, now this person I suspect he's also taking money but no one will report him because he tend to pinned the missing monies to other employees and the owner believes his words. I have aid him in cash but he asked me to hand it to someone else but told me not to mention anything to the other person because he doesn't need to know. Do you think this guy will call the cops even I already paid the money back?

What if this person just takes the money and denys getting it. You need to pay it back, and you need to get a receipt where you paid it back.

Yes they may still call the police but it will go much better if you have paid it back

I have given him the cash already because he won't give me my W2 forms, he wasn't around so he made me give it to another employee in a sealed envelope but reminded me not to mention anything he said he's mailing my W2 forms that very same day, I know I should have thought it through but I panic because I never done this before and only took the money because I need desperately.

Desperate need is not an excuse to steal. Only you know what your employer will do but, yes, he could very well call the Police.

I think you should go to the owner also and tell them the whole situation.

First, tell them you owe them an apology because you stole $500 from his business in a moment of desperation. Explain that you really regret doing it and feel that he deserves to know that this happened.

Second, tell him you paid it back in cash, who you paid it to and when. Tell him who caught you and told you to pay it back in this way. Explain that you were threatened that if you didn't pay it back, your W-2 would not be provided to you.

Third, tell him that other people are also stealing from and share what you know about it.

Explain that you understand if he decides to fire you but hope he will give you another chance. You can tell him the circumstance and explain that you wish you had come to him about the crisis instead of stealing from him.

If you don't do this before things blow up and someone else manipulates the situation, I think you could be arrested and there will be no record that you paid the money back. You could then be accused of also being responsible for the money that the other guy stole.

You should start looking for another job because you are probably going to get fired. If the guy who knows about it keeps you, I think the only reason will be so he has someone else to blame for his own stealing.

Thanks for the fix. If he was just recently fired though, I'd still go talk to the owner about it. He could be blamed for all the other stealing that's going on otherwise. If the owner knows, he can take steps to find out who else steals from him.
