Why would my heating unit have gas coming out of it
    Hi,
I am a first time home buyer and don't know anything about ac/heaters. I'm not sure what brand it is but I do know that it is a combonation unit that has both ac and heat in the same unit. The problem is that the heat was working fine until I came home from work yesterday and found that the thermostat was set at 62 and the temp was 60. So I started looking at it and found that it turned on but nothing was coming out of the vents in the house. So I went out to the unit and there was gas coming out of the side of the unit. Anybody know what would cause this?

    Thanks...

It sounds like a heat pump with a Freon leak. Need to have someone fix the leak and recharge. Home Owners Warranty?

On second thought this could be a package unit. Are you on natural gas or propane?

Do you smell gas? Is this a round unit or a fairly big box. We are trying to determine if it is Freon or natural gas leak. Help us here.
