What did the contract, if one was signed, say the attorney would do?
The reason this is important is that the attorney may believe he or she did what you paid the attorney to do. There is no other good reason for failing to respond to your requests for status updates.
And I am puzzled by your inquiry "what attorney would be best for my situation [?]". Are you contemplating simply kissing that $1,800 goodbye?
The answer to the question in the thread subject, of course, is that you should get a diligent attorney: one who completes his assignment for which he has been paid in a reasonable time. It doesn't look like you found one.
