    Probation and fines
I was discharged from probation in Penna. 15 years ago although my fine was not entirely paid. Now I am being threatened to pay the rest of it. Is there a statute of limitations on fines or when I was discharged was the fine null and void. When was the law passed that you must pay your fine before probation discharge?

Was this restitution or forfiture? Was the fine ever sent to collections? Assuming the fine wasn't sent to collections then they can continue to come after you until it is paid. Once it is sent to collections I believe there is only a certain amount of years that you can be penalized. There may be outstanding debt obligation laws that refer to legal fines. I think that all they can do at most is try and collect the money.

Fines have no statue of limitation and you will always owe them if not paid ( most areas but can vary)

If it is a fine, it can not be discharged in bankruptcy either.

It is up to the judge to release you prior to fines being paid, most will not, as for law, it depends on where you are at. For most it is not that there is a new law, it is just a law that all conditions of your probation must be meet to be released. So fines not paid, all conditions not meet.
