    Arrearage payment help.
After a tough decision (and under advice of the lawyer) my husband relinquished his rights for the child's stepfather to adopt her. We were told that after the judge signed the paper my husbands support payments would stop (Oct 3rd 2012) and he'd just have to pay his arrearage which was approximately $800. $230 was still being taken out of my husbands checks. When my husband called DHS to check on the amount owed a month ago (Oct 16th 2012) we owed approximately $500.

He called DHS today (Nov 26th 2012) and now they're stating nothing has been paid to the arrearage and its still sitting at $800 owed. What should we do? We have both called the lawyer who is involved in all this but what else is there to do?

Make sure you record everything. It sounds like they expected a child support payment rather then an arrearage payment. He needs to stay on top of all this.

As of oct 3rd he was done with the actual support payments. The lawyer involved even told us to make sure Oklahoma dhs support enforcement had his information to verify which the guy told us in October they had and everything was fine. Now suddenly he's supposedly behind in child support and the arrearage hasn't even been paid. By my calculations at $230 every 2 weeks ( $460 on some months and $690 on other months) he shouldve been done with the arrearage on his last paycheck (11/23/12).

Most likely child support collections, or the court where the support order was placed was not informed when the judged signed the adoption papers.

But unless you got copies and had them sent to all the departments, if the judge signed papers Oct 3, there is no magic way to get to all the other departments, someone has to send them.

I understand they don't magically know. But they had all the information they needed a month ago and now here it it's a month later and they act like they have a clue what we're talking about. We've contacted the lawyer involved and if I haven't heard from him today I plan to email him . I justdidn't know what the easiest course of action would be in this instance.
