    Why does my house heat to 78 when my thermostat is set on 70
    Thermostat is set on 70 but inside temperature is 78 why?

    A thermostat that's way out of calibration can do that... and that can happen far easier than you think.

    What type of stat do you have, does it have a mercury bubble or is it electronic. What is the temp outside? What does it hold your house at if you set it for 62 degrees
