When heat is on the outside fan comes on for 5 seconds shuts off and comes on again
Bryant unit>>>when heat is on the outside fan comes on for 5 seconds shuts off and comes on again for 5 seconds and shuts off is this normal? The fan inside the house is running but there is no heat. After 90 minutes of the fan running I turned up the heat by 10 degrees. The red light came on and the temp inside started to go up. So if I just leave the temp at a certain degree the red light comes on for a short period but goes off and the house never gets warm unless I raise (way up) the temperature inside??

Presuming this to be a heat pump, the red light indicates the electric strip heat is on. The problem with your outdoor unit could be a low refrigerant charge, bad pressure switch, or bad contactor.

A/C shuts off after a few seconds [ 1 Answers ]

Yesterday, our A/C shut off and would not come back on. It shows on the digital thermostat that the fan is blowing cool (two different icons that appear and move) but the unit is NOT on. After leaving it off for the afternoon, my husband was able to turn it back on, but this lasted 30 seconds...
