There are 2 doors opening onto the exposed roof terrace of a 7 story high block of units. The doors face north and the building is in a coastal area approximately 200 metres from the beach. We are in dispute with a builder over what is the acceptable clearance on the top and bottom of the doors to achieve water tightness from rain and wind . We would like to know if there is a building standard covering this and what clearance should we accept.
The doors were water tight before remediation work and were cut down during the work as the hob beneath had to be raised due to retiling work on the roof terrace.
We believe they were cut too short so increasing the gaps on refitting. The builder saya they are OK but we do not believe so !

Don't know of any code that sets clearances. You can check this with your local building inspector.

The normal clearance between door and jamb is about 1/8''. U can use the flat edge of a wooden rule to check this space.

Using weather strip door stop will seal out water and wind. It has a rubber or vinyl strip that is set against door.

An aluminum saddle with a rubber insert is usually used on the bottom. The rubber seats against the bottom of door. The saddle is set in silicone or chalking to seal water from going under saddle.
