    480 volts in home
I was wondering if it is legal to have 480 volts and 480 volt devices or equipment that runs on 480 volts in my home.

    Thank you

There are no laws convenerning voltage to a home but building codes nay address the issue. What would you like to be doing with the $480? If you might be thinking of running machinery/business from your home that may also be covered by zoning.

You may want to review Section 210.6:
    NFPA 70: National Electrical CodeŽ
Click on Preview this document, then I Agree, then Open the NEC 2005.

You will be hard pressed to find a utility to deliver 480 volts 3 phase to a residential occupancy, but if your considering a transformer or a generator, you really need to review the entire code, for the voltage ratings of equipment, bonding of conduits, Arc Flash requirements , etc, etc. You will have some researching to do, depending on what this voltage is for, and how you plan to wire it, along with the cost of 480 volt rated equipment.
