    Ac unit shut down
My ac unit just shut down, and right before that there was a burning smell in the house. I checked all the circuit breakers, and non were tripped, I then went to the outside unit, and the burning smell was there, also there is no power to the thermostat.

Almost any part that is in your unit could have caused a burning smell the trick is to find out which part smells since you probably have no other test equipment available or probably do not know how to use the test equipment. So with the power or start sniffing around and report back with your findings since we have no idea from here what it is for sure.

NOTE: motors, contactors, capacitors etc can all create a smell when the go bad..
