Hampton Bay fan removal - can't remove the canopy ring

I see lots of questions about removing the canopy ring. Most say to turn the ring counterclockwise to remove. When I do that, it only loosens slightly, but won't remove. I've tried twisting, pushing up/down, still it only loosens slightly. Any suggestions?

I'm attempting to replace a hunter type 3 ceiling fan model # 25826. The canopy is load bearing and will not release from the mounting bracket in the ceiling. Can't rotate clockwise or counter-closkwise. Motor housing and assembly have been removed.

How do you remove the trim ring that covers the screws for the ceiling canopy on a Hampton Bay ceiling fan? They told me to twist it counterclockwise, but I have tried that and it won't budge. I have even put a pipe clamp on it and pounded it with a hammer... nothing. I am getting frustrated. ...

I'm installing a 52" Hampton Bay ceiling fan in my bedroom that has a vaulted ceiling with a 45 degree pitch. The canopy that came with the fan does not have enough room for the downrod and ball to angle correctly. Any suggestion? Thanks
